A new article by Asst. Prof. Bekir Gökpınar "OTTOMAN EMPIRE’S STRUGGLE TO SET UP A LINE OF DEFENCE IN THE BLACK SEA AGAINST RUSSIA: THE ACU CASTLE (1696-1711)"

Gökpınar's new article has been published in the Journal of Black Sea Studies and focuses on the Russo-Turkish relations in the end of the 17th century. Efforts of the Ottomans to prevent Russian Empire's spread in the region was his main focus. After Russians took the fortress of Azov in 1696, Ottomans tried to set up a new defence line in the Black Sea region. Castle of Acu being one them, the Ottomans built many castles to confine Russians in the Sea of Azov.

Congratulations to Asst. Prof. Bekir Gökpınar.
